The People of Yemen
“The people of Yemen have come to you. They are tender-hearted and more delicate of soul. The capacity to understand (fiqh) is of the Yemenis and wisdom is that of the Yemenis.”
Hadith narrated in Al-Bukhari.
Comment: The Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, uttered this statement while in Tabuk, which is towards the North of Arabia. From this point, when facing East (sun rise) most of the Hijaz and the rest of Arabia would be to his ‘right’ and therefore ‘yaman’ and of the ‘yamani people’- Thus, one interpretation suggests that he could have been speaking of himself. Or he could have simply meant the people of the lower region of Arabia, being present day Yemen and what is to the East of it. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
